I love watching all kinds of movies – especially action, Sci-fi, and fantasy movies. One series that has continued for decades now is The Terminator series. In the second film of the franchise, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, an advanced cyborg from the future is sent back to the past to terminate a boy named, John Connor. John and his mother are protected by another cyborg who gives us this famous line:Β

Copyright Terminator 2: Judgment Day

These two characters are being hunted and will be destroyed (killed), but someone comes and saves them. Doesn’t this remind you of what happens in the Bible? A savior to appear when things seem like all hope is lost?

Previously, we’ve read about what it means to betray God and being destroyed because of that betrayal. Now, let’s learn and understand what God’s true purpose and desire for us as believers is.Β

The Salvation of Our Souls

God’s true purpose and desire for believers is salvation. God wants to be with His people when everything He prophesied in the book of Revelation is fulfilled.

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.Hebrews 9:28

What is the purpose of our faith? Why believe in God, Jesus, and the Bible? Faith and belief shouldn’t be things that just make us feel good or make us look like a good person to non-believers.

who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

1 Peter 1:5

The purpose of our faith is salvation – the hope of heaven and eternal life. In Romans 6:23 it says

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

Eternal life is a free gift given by God, but does that mean it’s automatically given? If we’re given a gift for Christmas, our birthday, or some other special occasion, we have a choice to accept that gift or not accept it. Likewise, if we say we believe in God and Jesus, and the Bible, does that mean we will always believe?

When we look in the four gospels, and even in the epistles (Paul’s letters), we read about people who once believed but then fell away.

Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

Philippians 3:17-19

holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,

1 Timothy 1:19

Paul writes in a few of his letters about people who once knew the truth of the gospel but fell away – whether they were deceived by false teachers or let the things of the world get ahold of them, they left God’s side (betrayed) and couldn’t receive that free gift of eternal life.

What does that have to do with us?

We must understand that if we truly believe in the promises of God, then difficult times will come. People will try to lead us astray. Satan will work hard to make us fall away, to betray and thus destroy us. So what must we do? We must endure.

But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Matthew 24:13

Salvation Will Come

The Bible promises that salvation will come, but there is an appointed time.

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

Romans 13:11

“Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed”. I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up and attending church, I had never read this verse nor thought about it; I was spiritually asleep and ignorant, and I had thought that salvation wouldn’t come in my lifetime. I thought that I’d die and go up to heaven. But, after studying the Bible and truly understanding it – as God has now revealed – I can see I was wrong. According to Revelation 12:10 it says,Β

And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, β€œNow the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

Revelation 12:10

And in Revelation 11:15 it says,

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, β€œThe kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

Revelation 11:15

According to God’s Word, salvation will begin to happen at the sound of the seventh trumpet and when the dragon (Satan)’s group is defeated by the male child and his brothers. This is when they overcome just as Jesus overcame at the first coming (John 16:33).Β

As believers today, we must not betray like the Israelites in the Old Testament, nor like the Jews who rejected Jesus at the first coming (John 5:39-40). Jesus promised to send his messenger at the time of the second coming, and also would be with that messenger in spirit (John 14:17, John 16:25). Jesus and God give this messenger the words to speak when the proper time comes (John 16:13-15, Rev 10). If we reject Jesus’s messenger, then we would be rejecting Jesus and God as they gave this messenger the words to speak. We would be rejecting the gift of salvation – that being heaven and eternal life.

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.

Hebrews 2:1

As this verse from Hebrews says, we must pay closer attention to what we’ve been taught about the Bible, and once we know and understand the truth, we must not drift away from it. We must also not take the words of God, Jesus, and the Bible as superficial or a joke. If we truly want to be saved, then we fully understand Jesus’s words, believe them, and obey – even when the reality goes against our own expectations. God and Jesus fulfill all they have said – as they’ve prophesied. Jesus reminds us in John 14,

And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.

John 14:29

I hope you can understand what the Bible really says, and endure all trials and tribulations, overcome yourself, your own thoughts, false teachings about the Bible and God, and come out to salvation through the word that’s given by Jesus’s messenger when he appears. I hope you can study the Bible so you can recognize that messenger when he comes, believe in the words of Jesus, and be saved.

Come with Jesus if you want to live.Β
