Why is the Bible So Confusing?

why is the bible so confusing, confusing, bible, word of god, seek

When you think about it, the Bible can be really confusing. Looking at the words on the pages takes some careful thought, but even then, it can leave us scratching our heads. Take this verse for example:

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.”

Revelation 21:1

What comes to mind when you read this verse? Do you think of this passage literally? If so, it seems pretty scary right? The earth and sky (heavens) literally go away and a new (literal) earth and heaven (sky) is being made and there’s no more sea. No more sea? Now this sounds really confusing doesn’t it?

Get Wisdom, No Matter the Cost – The Proverbs Series

get wisdom, Bible, God, wisdom, seek

Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Proverbs 4:7

Why does it cost everything we have to get wisdom and understanding of God? Are we supposed to go into debt enrolling in a theology school? Sell everything we have in order to understand God better?

Actually, the word of God should be given without cost (Isaiah 55:1-3, Revelation 22:17). Rich or poor, anyone who is thirsty for the word of God is able to receive it. So why does the Bible say it costs everything we have? In fact, there is a cost to receiving God’s word–we have to let go of something in order to receive and keep it.

Please Lead Me to You, God – The Psalms Series

lead me, God, path, salvation, Bible, God's word

“Make me know your ways, O Lord; Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.”

Psalms 25:4-5

When I read these verses, I am reminded of my own past. I thought I knew God and His word. I thought I was on God’s path to salvation, but it turned out that I was actually lost although I didn’t know it at the time.

Why Can’t I See God? How to Believe in the One You Can’t See

see, believe, why can't i see God, God's Word, promise

At one point or another, most people have spent time considering the existence of God. It comes up in good times and bad, while we’re surrounded by other people in conversation or alone with our own thoughts. This thought, in some shape or form, has probably crossed everyone’s mind: Why can’t I see God? It would be so much easier to believe if He just came down and let me see Him.

I’ve lied awake waiting for that spiritual experience, a sign–anything. But I never saw God. They say that “seeing is believing” but perhaps that phrase needs some revision.

Does God Hate Me?

Has this thought ever crossed your mind? Maybe it’s in the midst of losing your job. Maybe you’re going through unimaginable heartbreak or grieving the loss of a loved one. And we all know that when it rains, it pours. Painful thing after painful thing just keeps piling up until you hit a breaking point. You cry out to God, “Do you hate me?? Why are you letting all of these things happen to me? Don’t you love me, God? Where are you??”

6 Practical Tips to Improve Your Life of Faith

It’s start of a new year. A time when motivation for change is at an all-time high and people all around the world renew their energy. It’s a time to start with a clean slate and move on from the shortcomings of the previous year. As a Christian, one of the goals I always made at the beginning of each year was to “have a stronger relationship with God” or “improve my life of faith”.

Does Questioning My Faith Make Me A Bad Christian?

I’m a millennial. Now, don’t leave just yet. I know millennials don’t always have the best reputation, but just hear me out. Or maybe you’re even a millennial yourself – welcome, you’ve come to the right place.  Millennials can be known as those who are always creating change. We’re also opinionated, we dig deep, seek truth, seek justice, and my personal favorite, we ask questions

5 God-Centered Ways to Grow Spiritually in 2021

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to use the new year as a chance to refocus to grow spiritually. Maybe you want to develop better prayer habits or read the entire Bible. Maybe you want to try to go to church more often. But overall, improving your life of faith is admittedly no easy feat. I used to tell myself every year that this would be the year I’d finally become the “good, mature Christian” I’d always wanted to be. The problem was that I would set the same goals, year after year, without being able to make any lasting changes in my life. I was obviously doing something wrong.

Do You Love God in the Way He Wants to Be Loved?

love god, love, Bible, God's love

How do you show your parents that you love them? Do you put a lot of thought into it?

When we are young, we usually express our love for our parents by giving them things that we like.

“I think this is a nice picture, so Mom will be happy to have it.”

“This is my favorite toy, so Dad will like it too.”

And of course, our parents accept these miscellaneous objects as precious gifts. It’s not because they necessarily want that crayon drawing or those Lego pieces, but because they know the pure intentions of their children’s hearts.
