The Origin of Suffering

Isn’t it an easy habit to think that man’s destiny is to live a mere mortal life? To suffer, to become old, and eventually return to dust? Do you ever wonder if every misfortune, even death, is God’s will?

origin of suffering, pain

In truth, God’s purpose was not for His creation to go through hardships, suffering, or even death. As we can see in Lamentations 3:33, God doesn’t willingly bring affliction or grief upon anyone. Then, where does this suffering really come from? Couldn’t we conclude that death and suffering come because of the absence of God who is life?

How Suffering Came to Be

God’s original intention was to dwell with mankind eternally on this earth. But He hasn’t yet succeeded with this original plan. Do you know why?

God’s work was obstructed due to the greed of a being He created in His likeness. One of his most trusted angels, whom we know as Lucifer. This being wanted to exalt himself above God. Although he failed, he went on to implant that same seed of greed and deceit into the first man, Adam. through his wife, Eve. Satan succeeded in causing Adam to betray and turn away from God – just as Lucifer had done as well. That is why today, we know and call Lucifer by the titles of “devil” or “Satan”. These titles mean “obstructor, deceiver” and “enemy,” respectively.

origin of suffering, pain

Wickedness and sin then entered mankind and only worsened with every passing generation. Eventually, God was left with no choice but to leave – for God, who is Holy, would no longer contend with sinners (Genesis 6:3). Ultimately, ownership of all of God’s creation went to the devil. That is how death and suffering began on earth and has continued until this present day.

What Is God Doing Now?

God promised a time when He would come back, restore everything that He lost, and reunite with His creation. A time when there will be no more death, mourning, crying or pain. A time when only love and peace will reign (Revelation 21:4). But how many Christians and non-Christians alike would be willing to believe this if it were to happen on earth?

Have you ever thought about when God will return and where He will be when He does come?

New Heaven and New Earth

Would you believe it if Jesus had already returned and was working to fulfill that promise made by God? To bring heaven down to earth? But we have to think, if he were to bring heaven down, where would it come to? We can see it in Revelation 21:1-3, to a place called new heaven and new earth, or in the Korean language, Shincheonji. At this place will be God’s promised pastor and people who have been re-created according to His Word.

Shincheonji. You’ve found it. And the best part is that in this place, New Heaven and New Earth, there will be no more suffering because God will be there, together with His people. God promised that himself as we can see in Revelation 21:4

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

This is God’s promise. Suffering will come to an end. Although it might be hard to believe, that work has already begun. Don’t fret. Continue to seek God more and work to be at that place where He has promised to come to.
